Just to be clear, we are talking about 2009!

So, if you were a betting man and you knew there would be a true 60+ pound flat caught this year, where would it come from? I’m only going down to pool 5, but that’s what the comment posts are for.

Last question is a kicker question.

Holy crap, 2 votes each across the board???

For laughs, lets pretend I landed a 60# Oli. Measurements are good enough for me. I am not taking any chances of not getting her back in the water safely. I don’t even want to weigh her in the net and chance something go wrong. That being said, I should carry a nice sheet of plastic to keep her on like they do in Europe.

i wonder sometimes about pool 1, its a good looking stretch of river with hardly any fishing pressure. anybody go through the locks ever?

The correct response is not an option in your poll.

Think I should have named this poll…What’s your home water?

Yes Pug…I’m old school. Walleyes and other fish can be taped, but a flathead demands to be measured in pounds!

I think I’m going to throw a bathroom scale in my boat. That big one I caught last year wasn’t fun at all to weigh, even in the net.

I predict Mississippi river or Rock river will give up the first 60# in these parts. That’s not much of a bold prediction though…

BK, I know you haven’t fished the Iowa River, but I gotta tip my cap to that river. Too many 40 pounders not to have a 60 in there. Also, Maybe head down to good ol’ pool 10 or 11. I may be able to show you a spot or two, or vice versa:)

Not a bad idea if the boat isn’t rocking. I’d be careful, I have enough problems balancing on the scale in my bathroom.

Wasn’t a one that was real close caught down near Mankato on the Minnesota last summer? I believe it was reported in the paper down there.

If by close you mean halfway there, then yes, DFresh, that one was close!

Nice try BK. Trying to narrow down your options for the summer?? Maybe you should pay for that info like the pro’s do?

I know there is a 50er on pool 7. I beleive just about any pool on the big river could have the first 60 caught. Some where on Pepin there has to be a hog that big or bigger.

I know a fish that is a meal away from 60. Hopefully she’s still in the area this year, and just finished eating a 3lb walleye when I find her

I still think we should have been able to count the net in with Danny’s fish.

Oh oh….. here we go… the unofficial 58lb-59lb fish just jumped in to the official 60lb class catagory. Brian…. are you finding yourself with a little bit of time on your hands lately?

    Just getting primed for tonight.

I don’t recall if you were along with Dtro when his 1 tonner was caught, but the excitement is pretty hard to contain when the scale reads 62 pounds.

Time for a new sticky thread!

Aanderud was with me and the excitement really didn’t start until I glanced down and seen that the fish completely covered up my 48” rule and the sides of the belly spilled over my bench seat.

My scale was bouncing over 60 too and Brian and I had to take multiple readings until we were satisfied and in agreement. Brian noticed if the scale was not plumb the reading was skewed. There were a few excited mid 60lb readings with my limp wristed hold

I can tell you this though, tape measures don’t lie

    Mister,
I almost posted “Why don’t you do like us walleye guys do. We take a picture of the big catfish then cut it into 3 or 4 pieces and weigh each piece on our 20 pound scale and then add all the weights together ”

I didn’t think he had much experience with flats since he’s made Redneckcracker so popular.

What? Did I say something wrong?

Anyone can add. The question is whether they can add correctly.

I’ve been personally reminded many times that my personal best 48 pounder does not gain me membership to the 50lb Club.

    58-59lbs is still NOT 60lbs.

Just think Hanson, you could have shoved 8 4oz no-rolls down it’s throat and been in!

62.8 in the net, minus 2.8 pound net, equals….ummmm 960 ounces? Of course I’m just kidding. Chris is right!

There are 60#+ flatheads caught from Branched Oak Reservoir in Nebraska every year. The catch is, it’s C+R only on flatheads there …..My vote is the tri-county canal system in central Nebraska(or is this a Minnesota thing only?) Can’t we Nebraska boys play?
