RyanK and I have fished that stretch a good deal last year. We have pulled many channels from there using cut suckers, mostly at night time. Ryan also pulled the 42 flat last year from that stretch.

We have also been out there about 5 times this year, but just pitching the shoreline, however we did see a dead channel cat that someone left up on the ice that was close to the dam.

I have also fished downtown saint paul and pulled a few channel cats there. Mostly in the summer.

Not yet this year. They should be going soon though. That entire stretch of the river holds some nice sized fish. Look for current breaks with deeper water, bridge pilings, culverts, etc. They always seen to attract a fair amount of fish. Cutbait or smelt have worked the best for me, although you can’t go wrong with a good ol’ gob of crawlers either. Good Luck out there!

Right now the channels and flatheads are still in the deeper holes in the river. They are congregated, so once you find them, you’ll have some fun. BUt you’ll have to do some searching first. They will stay in the deeper holes until the water temps start warming up some more.
