According to my log, I didn’t have luck down there last year until March 30. Last year was not as good as past years either. There should be a few good days, but I bet it will be spotty. I am not very confident it’s going to ever really get hot down there.

Do you think draining it slowed the fishing down and it’s going to take a few years for it to become “stocked” again?

I have a sneaky suspicion that has happened. You’d think that they’d start migrating back in once the locks start going, but it may take a few years.

A few years for the population to replenish, not for the locks to get going.

There were a number of factors that set last year back. There was the drawdown, of course, and I seem to remember a fuel spill at some point last winter that drained into the river either there or somewhere just upstream. The bridge construction was going on, too, and I’m not sure what kind of impact that may have had.

I was looking over my fishing log the other day. I’ve caught fish there as early as March 9th. That was in ’07. In ’06, it was March 11th. But this year, I’ve been there 3 times for a total of 9 hours… not a single cat. Something’s not right.

I hope it turns on eventually, but at this point, I’m not going to hold my breath. I’ll keep checking it out, but I’ll definitely keep my expectations a little lower.

It’s getting close to April and the Minnesota she rises, if you know what I am getting at.

Yes, I do… There are better spots to catch bigger kitties, and the time is almost here. I ain’t too worried about it.
