I was treated today by a buddy that took me ut chasing kitty kats on the ice. Being a style I have wanted to try I was excited just to get out. We used a 1/4 oz jig with a smashed fathead and did well getting about 7-10 cats each. Here is the one photo snapped of me with the first one. It is always good to get out and a bonus to be on fish most of the time!

Nothin wrong with that! Don’t think I’ve ever gotten a cat thru the ice. Had to be fun.

Were they hard to find? Did they move much? What kind of structure were you targeting? Tell us more please.

A buddy of mine played guide and put us on the fish fast!

There was another group of guys out there and they only caught a couple fish so they left….little did they know they were in the wrong area. Finding the cats can take some time but a good place to start looking is sharp drop offs. They are aways moving so hole hopping can improve your odds of catching but it was cold so I put out a couple rods that had clickers and just put them 20 feet down. The cats can be anywhere under the ice it is much like fishing for crappies. One thing about them is they spook very easy and you need to lower your jig to them not just drop. We put a camera down and got to watch them just swim around and it seems like 1 in 20 want to eat something so it is a numbers game.

Thanks for the info, Aaron. Nice pic.
I’m hoping to get out after this next cold spell. I’m going to chase some St Croix cats and see if I can find them.

After that cat I disagree that was an UGLY CAT!

I caught it on my ice rod Ugly Stick! It was really Blind in one eye and could not see out of the other.

Don’t you know it’s not what is on the outside, it’s what’s on the inside! Beauty comes from within!
