Good old Deano has hit a home run I think.

He’s letting me try out a 7 foot Triumph St Croix rod that looks like it’s going to be perfect for Sturgeon fishing. The price is right too.

I’ll be trying it out on channel cats in the morning.

BTW…I hate this try before you buy program he has…if I like it, there will be four of them in my boat this year.

I’m don’t think the FW knows where this forum is…

How’d it work out, do you still have these rods in your boat today?
and was it the spinning or casting triumph rod?

Wow! Digging up an oldie. On BK’s recommendation, I bought one of these, and while it hasn’t seen the use and abuse he’s put his through, I am happy with mine. They’re not real heavy, so you’re not going to horse a fish in, but they do the trick.

The model of the rod he’s referring to is: TRC70MHF (it’s a casting rod)

Ralph if you look at the sturgeon we caught Saturday(see my post in this forum A Day Of Making Memories) you will see they were from 47″ up to a 64″ and they all were caught on the same rod accompanied with a Abu Garcia 6600 reel !

Have fun with that rod !

I’ve had one since 2008; it’s landed its fair share of sturgeon and channel cats. )

Although I would still recommend that St Croix rod, I’ve switch over to the Team Catfish I-Cat rod.

Mostly because I don’t need 8 rods now.

The I-Cat Carbon Fiber rod will handle flatheads, channel cats over 3 pounds and it still has a tip sensitive enough to detect the slightest nibble for a sturg. Much more back bone as well.

The Triumph is about $100. less expensive but there’s also a life time warranty.
I like the large hook keeper, one that my flathead hooks actually fit in and the sensitivity of the carbon fiber.

Like I said, I’ve used the Triumph for years and it served me well.

My one gripe is the handle is a bit short for fighting large fish (in my opinion).
