So RyanK and I headed down to pool 2 last night to pitch for some smallies and maybe get a walleye or two. We started off with spinners and quickly changed to top water poppers. We were moving along the shore through downed trees in the water. We caught about 10-15 smallies and actually had our first double!
The wierdest thing happened, he had something hit his popper very close to shore, he started to reel in and I saw the fish and told him he had a pike on. Getting it closer to shore it was not a pike but a gar or shovelnose. We tried to get a picture on the camera phone but it jumped off to quickly. Im guessing it was about 3-4 lbs. Is that a rare case that a gar hits a top water bait? Either way was a cool experiance. Nice fish Ryan!
