    Heya all,

Just started catfishing last year and have found a couple of spots that I like and have caught a couple of ok sized catfish. I think to date, 12lbs might be the biggest.

I’m looking to try and find some bigger cats out there. I live around the cities, I fished the crow river a lot last year, from shore.

If anyone has any suggestions for places around the cities were I can find some hogs that would be awesome! And also suggestions on fishing them! Thanks again guys. Love that I found this forum hehe.

Welcome to the Cat Forum Mate!
Sounds like you already found the Hogs with a 12lbr!!! We love pictures here. (hint hint)
The Mississippi, Minnesota and St.Croix rivers all have very nice fish in them. One simple key to remember is Big water hold big fish.
As far as specific spots, As a practice we don’t like to put them out publicly, lots of lurkers can really put a damper. Though I think I can speak for a lot of the Mates that have been here for a while, PM (private messages) are a great way to share info.
It sounds like you know how to find the fish in smaller systems, don’t be bashful about taking the knowledge and applying it to the bigger water. Take some time and go back read lots of the older threads in this forum and you will be amazed at the info here at your finger tips.
    PM sent

I might add that you may consider the April Fools Cat Gathering.

Lots of great resources will be in attendance plus it’s a good time, but watch out for the guy in the pink dress

The best tip I can give you is stay active on this site. There is a lot of cat knowledge spread around on this forum that takes many years to learn. It can cut your trial and error time in half. Also just keep doing what your doing and you will learn something new every night out!
    Good luck,see ya out there

How far are you willing to travel?

The obvious spot to suggest would be the Coon Rapids Dam, but that place can get so ungodly packed that it isn’t worth it.

Im pretty much willing to travel anywhere within reason. I really would like to catch some big cats this year! I traveld to hastings dam a couple days ago just to scope it out. That was about 50 mi each way.

Get down to Dave’s April Fools Cat show!

If you’re new to catten, you might absorb more info in one day than many learn in a year using trial and error.

The best thing you can do is search through old topics and try to learn what you can that has produced in the near past.

There are so many good tips here, knowledgeable people, and just people committed to pursuing catfish that I think that anyone from the beginner to the expert will learn something from past topics, and I am sure to learn more in the future.

The April get-together is a good place to meet some folks, enjoy some food, and maybe even catch a few fish.

The best tip I can give is to spend as much time on the water you can, and learn as much as you can from everyone. As for locations, there are 100’s of places to catch catfish from shore in the twin city area, if you have a boat the possibilities are unlimited.

Dave’s got a great point on checking old topics on here. I do that quite a bit being I still consider myself a noobie too. Speaking of Dave he is a wealth of info himself.
