With this weird weather all my early season spots are still frozen. Has anyone been out targeting carp yet? If so, any luck? Can’t wait for ice out on the lakes!

I only targeted them once about a month ago.. it was still very slow then. I have been seeing lots anywhere the water is warmer on the river. I dont think it would be hard to coax them to bite.
The river temp is now 40, the ice isnt going to last long. Lots is going to happen in these next couple weeks.
March 18, 2008 at 12:23 pm #666519No, but like Dave mentioned, we saw a bunch in the shallows this weekend. Didn’t have any carp bait with, though. I’d like to get some soon!
gpbakkenPosts: 28March 18, 2008 at 6:20 pm #666668drowned some crawers in the Miss a few weeks ago, caught 2, one little guy and one about 13#. all this from the driver’s seat of the truck!
March 18, 2008 at 6:23 pm #666672Hey guys, I’m new here. Carp is one of my favorite species. I caught my first two carp of the season yesterday. Nothing big, but healthy 6-8lb fish, one was a jumper too! Nice way to start out the rough fish season anyway.
Yeah, I think that’s a small mouthed buffalo too. That’s a nice fish!
March 18, 2008 at 8:58 pm #666732I’m thinking this weekend sometime I might have to go find the Coon Rapids Dam now that I’m up here and try for some carp.

I believe that’s a smallmouth buffalo, but nice catch!
Ah Yeah, probably
If thats the case that must have been a monster. That fish weighed 18lbs 2oz.
March 21, 2008 at 4:37 am #667705Hello everyone! this is my third time on this site and i just noticed there is some carp fishermen on here so I had to sign up. The ice is holding me back on all my carp spots on the croix. That pic looks like a buffalo but if you look at its mouth I think i can see a barbal or maybe it a branch from that tree. Happy Fishing
March 21, 2008 at 6:11 am #667710Welcome to IDO carphumper!
I’m certain that is a smallmouth buffalo.. very nice one at that!
That bluish-grey color and those black eyes will give it away every time.
March 21, 2008 at 4:27 pm #667854Grant you said you caught them two from the front seat of your truck. I was just wondering was that throgh the ice? I have a small pond by my house that has carp in it that i bowfish in the summer but cannot catch one in the winter. I thought it was because maybe their metabolism is slowed down in the winter but i can caught them throughout the winter on the river on open water. does anybody have any ideas?

Not sure if you have heard the statement. Referring to Brass… Um stones for lack of a better word on a family site.
This will help explain more. Def number 3 would be the best fitting.

March 23, 2008 at 3:39 am #668284Not any good fishing stories about suckers. The only time I ever really catch them is when Im carp fishing and some times walleye fishing a small jig head tipped bouncing off the bottom. I have speared many a suckers in streams. O man is that a lot of fun and its comming up soon.
