I had a great time “fishing” and filling the boots of St Croixer and Stuart on P4 yesterday.

The more I see of these flats, the more I’m convinced they won’t move much less bite in their wintering mode.

I’m just not sure how long they stay in this state.

I would say recording off the new Marcum 825c is awesome compared to the Marcum 500 I’ve used in the past. I think the pics are very…very sharp.

The year class of channels are looking pretty good on P4 too!!

Thanks Jim B. Eric R, Stuart, Jarrett and of course the cookie monster at Everts for help in these pics.

That’s so cool Brian, that I can’t even rip on you. Nice work. I especially like the overhead of that group. The first one of smiley isn’t bad either. I bet that the look they give my bullheads when I am out.

Didn’t you guys try catching those channels?

Uh oh, the fever went up and I hd it under control there for a while. <– Fever, not anger.

That first smilely face is just awsome! It just makes me want to get out on open water more.

Nice pic’s Brian! Dad found some smallmouth doing the same thing the other day. There where about 20-30 fish in one big ball. Anyone know why these fish do this?

Just taking a stab, but with them being lethargic, they find safety in numbers.

Maybe so they have someone to wake them up in the spring?

    Incredible pics! Thanks guys.

How do you think that camera would work in the summer? Half as clear those pics would still be great.

    They did turn out well.

Those channel cats are about..maybe a foot long…if that. Don’t they group in a ball to stay warm??

I’m going to guess in my arm chair way…that the small channels stay balled up like that for most of the year…until they feel large/safe enough to venture on there own. There were some strays away from the “ball”, but not very many.

I haven’t used a camera in the summer. When the snow starts melting is the best time. I would guess that a person would have to bump right into them when the water dirties up. My Marcum 500 was pretty much useless after 12 inches at 21 feet on the summer time St Croix. ‘Spose a guys just going to have to give it a whirl!

Of course there isn’t a way of being exact without catching them…but I’m going to go out on a limb and say there were fish in excess of 40 lbs…many in the thirtys. We did see a few that I would guess were under 10 lbs.

This has me scratching my head. Where are all the smaller fish? Again, guessing…but 90% of all flats seen were over 10 lbs.

As for bass…we stopped at a spot looking for some smallies..but couldn’t find any. After down loading in the the computer…yeah, there were smallies there. We just weren’t close enough to see them on the water.

PS If anyone lost an anchor on the sippi…I know were it is…20 fOW.

Man what a blast, for sure, THANKS AGAIN!

We could not get over how lifeless the flats looked …….. and how about the dirt/pebbles on top of them.

Watching the show on the big Marcum lcd was a treat.

We also saw some rough fish cruise by the cam, a couple of slow rollin carp and lots of walleyes and saugers too.

Definately quality time spent on pool 4

Bret, take your camera over to the Wi side of the Dresbach Dam. They pile up over there too.

We did shoot some live”action” footage but the flathead’s move about as fast in the still pictures It really baffles me where the small cat’s are staged this time of year, but hopefully we can get out and search for them shortly.Saw some nice walleyes and maybe Brian will put some of them Bullhead stealers up.

    Awesome ……..guys!

    Thanks for posting.

I will say the Flats pictured are probably a lot smaller than you think its just kind of the way it is with underwater camera’s.

    Just thinking aloud again…

I wonder if the smaller ones aren’t staging in shallower water with cover, possibly heavy. Those big ones have no worries and won’t be a target when they are “sleeping”. However, I would assume the little guys get about as lethargic and they would be sitting ducks, or sitting walleye if you will.

Farmboy, I guarantee you she wasn’t that pretty.

    Nope, no fish were taken.

Maybe I’ll have time tonight to post a pic or to of the guys in the boat taken through the 825c. IMO there isn’t much lost through this camera…or gained in size either…but I’ll let you guys be the judge.

I have never taken an ugly one home, but I have woke up next to a few.

I prefer to judge size similar to the say it is when you lose a fish. It was massive, epic proportions even, right up until I land it, then it is a 2 lber.
