Earlier this year I had people poking fun at me…I thought I was Pug for a few moments, when I suggested “twanging” the line on a sturgeon loaded rod.

    Did anyone try this?

I did have one sturgeon jump when I did this. One sturgeon didn’t do anything but bulldog around….but all the rest, channel cats and carp did not like it. They took off faster than Larry and Dtro signing up for a Moores contest.

I twanged the big boy, but no jump. Twanged a flathead and it didn’t do anything.

Ralf, didn’t we twang a sturgeon and that’s when your fiancĂ© held on to your pants when it went down?

Mike (MNfishHUNT) had me twang a couple fish in his boat. The first was a 32 lb. flatty and the twanging didn’t really seem to do anything with that fish. The other time was when I had a 49.5″ sturgeon on and that fish jumped once, but that was before I started twanging. Once I started twanging that fish, it seemed like I may have had it change directions a couple of times during its runs.

    I twanged a 51″ sturg, but I didn’t notice any result.

I twanged a few times, no jumps but seemed to make the fish fight more.

I think that’s the best I can say…the LS didn’t like it and took off on another mad run. I had one 9 or 11 lbs channel that did the same. Flatheads?…they just really don’t care one way or the other.

I don’t know. It still feels a little soon. But then again, I could practice over winter.

Wait, are you still out of town?

I wonder if twanging works on a more toothy variety of fish
