Ande Mono

I know the overwhelming bunch of you guys use braided lines, but I like to use mono in some circumstances.

I have been using 20 or 25 pound Trilene Big Game. It’s worked well for me. I’d like to see if there’s something better out there, though.

I’m thinking about trying some Ande Premium mono. Does anyone have any experience with it?

Been using Ande for years, still have a spool that I have had for at least 16 years and it is still good. It is a 10 lb test, but has the strength of 25lb. When I find some, other than on the internet, I buy it.

16 years!? My life span with mono is about 3 months, and then it starts weakening up .

I dont know if I have ever saw it, How much does this line cost?

A better heavy duty mono than Berkley Big Game? I think this might be a tough find IMO. I’ve found the Big Game is almost bullet proof and very tough line for a mono.

If you answer the call please report back how the Ande works out as its always good to get feedback on a product.

Many years ago Ande was the line to have, specially fishing for trout and salmon in Michigan. I havent seen it for sale in awhile but there again I havent been looking. Example: I caught a 24 lb salmon on 2 lb Ande fishing in the mouth of the Boardman river while fishing lakers and steelehead, this fish hit a lil’ cleo. I was fishing a 9′ rod but still thats saying something for this line! This line used to stretch big time….if you cut a 12″ piece off and tried to break it…it would stretch to around 16-18″ in lenth before it would break! Hopefully it is still made like that.

It’s fairly comparable to Big Game in price. Slightly more, I think.

Bass Pro, Cabelas, Catfish Connection…they all have it.

Just an addition, “ANDE Tournament was designed and manufactured for record fishing and to conform with all IGFA tests from 2 lb. to 130 lb. ANDE holds over 1,500 current IGFA world records. These include salt, fresh, fly and junior.”

I used 30lb Ande for flatheads when I first started. I have also use it in 8lb, 12lb, 20lb, and 50lb test. It is very tough line and abrasion resistant. It’s high quality line and will work great. It seems to have more memory than Trilene though but that’s not much of a problem on baitcasting outfits. I use all trilene now but next year I might try 25lb stren and see how it compares. Its always fun to try something new I think, sometimes you find something you really like!

I remember using Ande in the past and I did have some issues with it. I remembered I swore not to buy it again, but I cant remember why.

I think it was something to do with line memory(very stiff). I used it back in the musky fishing days and I hated it. If I had to guess I probably had non stop issues with already stiff line even worse when it was cold outside.

I like my Trilene Big Game for heavy mono. The old Stren was almost as tough, but it was twice the diameter and you could use it for bungee cords it had so much stretch. I remember using 50# Stren for king salmon in alaska and I swear the line would stretch 10′ before my drag went out?

I don’t use mono very much but I reallt like spider wire super mono. I’ve had great luck with it and have been using it for the last 6 years or so.
