The first pic is of Realtor Ron’s largest from yesterday….

This morning the FW said “Let’s go!”…and I thought she meant let’s go to Wallmart..but she was talking FISHING! She’s such a good wife!

So…two hours later I was ready.

Grabbed to a couple bags of shad from Dean..got my hand slapped for trying to take a couple PB cookies from his secret spot behind the counter and off we went.
We met up with the fishing machine Realtor Ron up near the dam, he had one channel before we arrived.

Once the rods were set out it didn’t take 10 minutes for the FW to have a chunky 10 pounder on. With the sun out and no wind, she was cooking before the channel was too the boat. Now if I could just get her to cook like that for me.

That was the last fish out of 28 feet of water. we moved to deeper water because I’ve been having good channels coming out of 55 fow. But not a bite today…the flow is up and I’m thinking that could be the reason.

We then move closer to the shoreline in 25 fow. There was a fellow fisherman that was hammering the silver bass right up on the shoreline. He looked like he was haveing a good time as every time I looked his way his rod was bent pulling another fish in.

About this time it clouded over and a slight breeze picked up. Deb pulled in her second fish at 7 lbs. (picture 3) She said she had a nibble on the rod closest to her, but I directed her to the St Croix on the other side of the boat..which had a good bend in it. While she was working on that one, the rod that she was watching was bending. So I had to do what I had to do…told her to slow down a bite while I netted what would have been her fish…a chunky 13 pounder that I thought would have hit 16 pounds. Her fish was a little 11 pounder. She said something under her breath about not listening to me anymore.

We had to get back in but she stuck a 3/4 pounder before we called it a day.

For October 7th we couldn’t have asked for better weather to spend some quality time together. She’s sitting right here so I thought it sounded good to toss that in there.

Hope you all get some time on the water before it’s time to get the ice gear out!

PS one of these days she’s going to hold her own fish!

Nice job! Hey, you have to at least get her to get IN the picture, even if she’s standing next to you while you hold the fish! Of course, this way, 20 years from now you can sorta ‘forget’ who caught them…”must have been me, I’m holding it??”

Oh yeah, I also was surprised to see that you said you haveing good channel success in 55 FOW! That’s super deep. Being a MN river guy (can’t even really call myself that yet, this is my first year fishin cats), that seems deep.

How about a sturgeon in 65-70 fow water? I have Stcroixer to back me up.

Brian, are you holding those fish by the gills. Shame on you, that’s highly unethical.

Relax people, that’s just a joke.

    Jez pug.

I had a grip in their mouth and gill bone. I also have the bandaids on to show that this is not the best way to hold a channel.

The channels were on tonight again with 6 being caught and one flathead. The flat was the only fish to come out of the deep water.
When the wind picked up and the temp dropped we headed for the bait shop.

I’m chicken when it comes to weather…and proud of it.

PS If the FW would have been in the pic who would have taken the picture?

How hard can a channel clamp down anyway?….I don’t want to try it myself, I’m too chicken to try it.

BK, the only time it is ok to wear gloves is if the better half is too scared to hold a fish for a picture…That is my new rule anyway…

I’m thinking I’ll adopted that rule too.

Thanks life…I heard of a 20 pounder caught out of a hole that I just left yesterday. I don’t know the details…so I hope he’ll jump in here and tell the tail.

I don’t mind hearing fishing stories. They are always fun to hear. Last night, Sunday the guy next to me was jigging for crappies, I was fishing for cats. He pulled in a nice 5+ lb Smallmouth bass out it was 26 inches long and 14 inches around. Nice fish too. Was fun watching it come in. All I got was a couple sheepies

Catching is so over rated…it’s being on the water that counts….say some.

I think just being out there relaxes me more than anything. Nothing beats it after a hard week of work. Guess thats why I stay so calm and up beat at work. Sitting out on the river bank after dinner for an hour or two. Even if I don’t get a thing I meet some nice people out there or just enjoy the sun going down. I sleep like a log at night.

I have a friend that calls the Croix “The Healing Waters”.

I go fishing, well quit a bit. Every year it happens to me…all of the sudden I notice my surroundings. I’ve seen them 100 times before…but at that moment…I SEE them. And I’m grateful.

Seize the moment…but don’t forget to watch the line!!
