So what was the scoop on this bad boy Outdoors4life??

Big fish…I’m going to guess it was caught no less than 20 river miles from where it was tagged.

This fish was originally tagged on September 14, 2003 at river mile (sorry not letting everyone know! ). At that time the fish was 1372 mm long (54.02″) and weighed16.660 kilograms (36.7 lbs). The fish had a 503 mm girth (19.80″).According to the information you mentioned on your catch, this fish wasrecaptured in the same general area as it was originally tagged a little over 4 years earlier! The length you reported is consistent with thedata we collected for that fish. During this study we have found thatthe growth rates for lake sturgeon on the Lower St. Croix River arerelatively slow and average only about 0.83 inches per year!

The tag was extremly hard to read and this is the fish he believes was the one I caught. If it is the correct fish it means it was caught fairly close to where I caught it.

    Thanks for posting the results.

So I couldn’t have been more wrong with my theory. Some big fish move….and some don’t.

Although he/she may have just came back from his/her travels??

If I’m understanding this correctly its amazing how long these fish live….
Based on that…. Its weird to think that some of these fish are older than me that I’ve caught.
Thanks for sharing the info Outdoors.

    60 inches divided by .83 = 72.29 years

I know they grow faster the first couple years…but even shaving 10 years off a 60 inch fish would make it hatched in…

My buddy caught the smallest I have ever seen……12 inches on shad that would not fit in it’s mouth.

Scary to think that these fish could out live you.
