Wednesday night will be a night to remember for Jena (Bungalow Restuarant employee) and her friend Tom.

The evening started off slow with a few nibbles without a commitment. We stayed at our first spot too long, because we did land a 3 poundish channel. I figured if there was one there…there should be more. But it was not to be.

We moved to our second a third spots without any hook ups.

The fouth spot which was on a break turned out to be the jackpot for action. I lost count of the channels brought in from the shallow side…when the outside rod tapped in the deeper water…I could feel in my gut it was going to be a good fish

It all happened within 3 minutes…Jena started reeling and made referance to last Sunday’s church service…something about “Oh MY God”. Little did she know that she never really felt the power of the fish on the end of the line.

She said “Oh! I’ve lost it . When she finished saying the word “it”…20 to 30 feet from the boat, her sturgeon… WELL into the 50’s and possibly into the low 60’s cleared the water with 3 feet of air between it’s tail and the water!

She started agian with the chuch service thing…over and over again while doing this strange dance..kinda like running in place. “I’ve never seen anything that big!” She was a bit excited to say the least.

This is were my new patent pending Mouth Jacks come in. It’s designed to close ones mouth when a fish of this size goes airborn. (Details of this new device will follow in the promotional forum….)

When her fish jumped I’m not certain exactly what happened except she wasn’t connected to the Great Lake any longer. This might have been a good thing as I wasn’t sure if she was going to hold onto the St Croix rod after it showed itself.

We had consistant action between channels and smaller sturgeon. One 22 incher was tagged.

Tom got into a good fight with the 47 inch sturgeon in the picture. He’s a St Croix channel cat guy. We lost his personal best channel next to the boat earlier in the evening when the 14 to 16 pounder came loose next to the boat….so close but yet so far away.

Just before packing up to go in, Jena had another chance at a good one…however this big boy dove deep below the boat and the party was over before it even begain.

Thanks for meeting up with me down at Everts. It was a very fun night of fishing with the two of you!

PS See ya Monday night for Bingo at the Bungalow!

That will be an ’08 upgrade.
