This may be a dumb question, but that never discouraged me before. Is it possible and are there shore spots for sturgeon fishing? I am aware you need deep holes, so I was thinking the scour hole behind bridge piling? I know much of the shore in inaccessible, but I thought I’d ask. I could have just hijacked another thread you know.

Sturgeon from Shore?

Riverhog caught a 40″er while shore fishing for channels late sept. last season. So it can happen.
September 21, 2007 at 5:11 pm #610032I’ve found some shore fishing opportunities at the DNR website. I suppose it couldn’t hurt to toss a ball of crawlers or some shad out anywhere. I suppose with the contest everyone tapped out the Moore’s supply.
Moores BaitPosts: 328September 21, 2007 at 6:23 pm #610047prices maybe a bit higher with the contest (just kidding) But the supply is hardly depleted. Good luck to all of you tomorrow, I hope eveyone feels they are in contention and stop in for the weigh-in on Sunday. From the latest calop polls, Pug is coming in at 12-1 to place…..

Wow, that’s better odds than the cat tourneys! Must be a smaller field.September 21, 2007 at 6:54 pm #610061Im unsure of the season boundaries, but, if youre willing to travel, then go to wild river state park in North Branch. Just go 50 yards downstream of the boat launch. Its not very deep but I always hookem there!
September 21, 2007 at 7:26 pm #610066Thanks for the idea. I actually have my bro asking me to go fishing up North on Saturday, so now I have a decision to make. But I might check that out sometime as it is not far from Centerville. I could grab one of my nephews on the way.
dtroInactiveJordanPosts: 1501September 21, 2007 at 7:36 pm #610069Cannot fish for them upstream of Taylors Falls.
Unless your waayy up North
September 21, 2007 at 7:46 pm #610073Can I accidentally catch them?

If you know where there are some holes, I’m up to a road trip!
I think my boat would probably work.
September 21, 2007 at 8:56 pm #610090I’m not sure, but I think the current state record was caught from shore.

I’m pretty sure you’re right about that. I believe he caught it from shore and eventually got in his kayak to follow it. I can not imagine reeling that monster in from a kayak!
Good luck if you try the shore fishing Pug!September 21, 2007 at 10:06 pm #610103The famous 80# Stillwater sturgeon was caught from the shore. They have been caught right off the levee in downtown Stillwater. You can drive right down to the levee unload your stuff and then park in the lot.
September 21, 2007 at 10:08 pm #610105Tom, I’m not sure, but I’ve heard that boats with NE on the bow don’t catch sturgeon in MN.
You’ll have to go with Steve DeMars “porch” fishing.

Catching would just be a BONUS.

aanderudPosts: 221September 23, 2007 at 12:12 am #610240How was the contest? Still going, right? Anyone get into any bigguns? I worked. Wahoo.
September 23, 2007 at 12:26 am #610243Last I heard before we left at 4:30 2 50″‘s one by Ron “pugs brother” and I think the other was Aqua Joe maybe?
Team Pug did quite well after pulling right up on us… at least 20 fish with a 50, 45 and 3 tagged fish.
Good time for sure….sunscreen would have been nice .I think a big one’s coming in this last hour!!!
September 23, 2007 at 1:30 am #610257Well there was a lot of work involved in choosing that spot. I went over the maps all night, checked the weather patterns, temp trends, wind direction, moon phase and some things you people don’t need to know. But I was overridden by Ron who said, “This spot looks good. Drop the anchor Gilligan” .
