This coming Saturday, the 22nd of September we will be holding our only Sturgeon contest of the season. The contest will run between the hours of 9:00 am to 9:00 pm. The boundaries are from Taylors Falls down to Prescott on the St Croix. Minnesota rules and regulations apply, and this is only a catch & release contest. Weigh in will be at Moores’ on Sunday the 23rd, with a picture & measurements of length and girth to decide the winners. Three places will awarded, and you must be present to win. We ask that you all be careful out there, and keep an eye out for the other people. You can sign up at Moores’ with entry fee being $10.00 dollars. A two dollar side entry fee can also be purchased for the lowest number tagged Sturgeon caught. Photos of the tag and number will decide the winner (one place). If no tagged Sturgeon are caught, all proceeds will be applied to the Pizza fund here at Moore’s.

Thanks, and may the best woman win…Whisker hooked.

(due to work and not being able to make it to this one, I can say that)

Is it time for “smack talking” now?

12 hour day? I suspect Brandy(whisker hooked) will have it wrapped up by noon! I’ll be out there doing my best to keep up with her!

There has beena fair number of big fish landed in in the last week, this could prove to be a very close contest.

Nice to see you ran with the tagged idea Bob. This way when Brandy catches another 60+ and sticks out her tongue, we have something else to shoot for. Although with her luck she’ll get a 65 with tag#1 waytogo

We need to watch out for Aqua Joe if he makes it out there.. he seems to be coming out ofthe closet this year and already has a 61″ fish on the season, and has been catching good numbers of fish. I have a few in the 50″+ range… I’ll try holding out for the contest day for Dickey Moe.

p.s… knowing me, I’ll catch it the day before or the day after!

You need to get that guy some fish this year Aaron. I think the only thing he has caught yet this year was a little 8 lb northern and some bass.

I should go alone because I always let the other guy get the big one!

    Or charge him a fee!

BUT I want to check with my Pops first to see if he wants to come out.

ANd only Ron would post pictures of the fish before the weight in

I guess I forgot to tell him that we like a little suspense going into Sunday.

When he caught a sturgeon and I caught a sheepie right away, I though, here we go again, another one of those days. It turned out to be a heck of a day. And to think, he wanted to go fishing up North.

If you think about it, that’s kind of talented for me to pull a bully out of 30′ of water in the Croix. At least that’s what I am going to keep telling myself.

Great report, Ron! Had to be better than going up north I bet? How was the fight with the 50″?

If that is his first time, I’d post it too!

Pug, I thought that was you guys out there…We were in the green Crestliner near you. Glad you got out there.

We got action right away, but then the bite slowed until we left right about 9 pm. 6 sturgeon, lots of sheeps, and one carp. Crawlers only.

I look forward to the other reports. I’ll get some pictures up later.

We caught a lot of sturgeon over the course of the day. Early they liked the crawlers, after that is was shad all the way. We were using 2-3 shad on a hook at times to fend off the sheephead! When a spot would go dead for too long, we would move and it resulted in more fish caught. Eventually we got away from the small fleet of fishing boats and headed to another location. The other location was steady fishing when the fish didnt want to bite in the community hole.

Nothing big for us today. A few fish in the low 40’s. It almost seemed to me that the fish were feeling the pressure. When we got out of the most popular spots we did much better.

Congrats to those lucky enough to stick into some bigger fish!

Note: It’s 5:15 a.m. and I still feel like I am sitting in a rocking boat! I think we need a few more cruisers on the croix.

Everyone puts their cruisers away after Labor Day.

There’s literally hundreds of places to fish sturgeon on the Croix with numbers. But it sure is fun fishing around a group of friends…just to harass them if nothing else.

There’s times that it seems a person can catch numbers anywhere on the croix…then otherdays….
