After FINALLY hearing what Brian’s secret is….
I thought I would share my experiances with a bait I found on a catfish site….Cured chicken livers….
To cure them you drain and arrange the livers on a foil-lined cookie sheet…douse’em down with garlic powder(don’t use garlic salt!) then cover them with either kosher or canning salt ,on a hot day put the pan in the noon day sun and let cook for 2 hours…turn and repeat the powder and salt..and cook until they turn a little brown around the edges………
I tried them just straight and with a drop of ANIS oil, They stay on the hook FAR better than the raw livers do – you actually have to change the bait every now and then…
Over the summer so far I have caught plenty of fiddler cats (2 to 3lbs) for the table..the anis oil doing a little better overall.
I only had a few over 6 lbs or so, but I was shore fishing 90% of the time so…….
BTW Brian….I have used the tiny cocktail shrimp (salted real heavy) for a back-up bait for panfish (summer and winter) and some days that’s the ticket!
