I’ve never fished with bullies before. We’re going out tomorrow evening (Sunday) and planning on fishing west of the “centerline” of the Mississippi. Do you hook bullies the same way you hook bluegills, below the dorsal? Thanks in advance.

    That works.
Personally I prefer to go a little further back closer or under the adipose fin. Off set the hook at an angle (diagonal to the bait) when hooking and not to deep. It can prevent the hook from doubling back and fouling in the bait. Also by keeping the hook not so deep it allows for the hook to rip out of the bait and increases your chances of a solid hook set.
    Good Luck.

We always hook them in the top of the back, just behind the dorsal fin a short ways. That is, if our baits are in slack water that’s not moving much. If there’s current, we’ll hook em in the mouth to make them look more natural.
