Fishing Barges?

I’ve seen magazines talk about it, but have never heard anyone talk about fishing them here. Has anyone fished barges? To clarify, I mean from a boat, not actually ON one.

At four miles per hour…it’s hard to keep the bait on the bottom.

Yes I have fished barges many times. I think of them as temporary cover and a current break. I have noticed cats and other predators can corner baitfish against them. Many times there will be a hole at a barge mooring and sometimes an undercut bank that tugboats have scoured out.

I was thinking barges that are full are better, since they are down in the water more. I know, I am good at stating the obvious.

A full barge would break more current and have a deeper wall for cats to push bait up against. But even an empty mooring can be good so keep that in mind.
