I am a WI resident and use blue gills for flatheads. The last time I went to pool 5 there was a sign by the landing in Alma saying the bluegill limit was 5 fish and something about trying to get the blue gills bigger by reducing the daily bag limit. is this right? Everything I see in the regulations say it 25 fish. Which is correct. thanks

Some fishing holes have “special” regs you have to follow other then what is in the book. Because the sign is posted…you have to follow them regs.

The question might be…. can you use pan fish for bait??? In the past it was illegal. Has it changed?

Using bluegills for bait is legal in Wisconsin but not in Minnesota, so you have to stay on the Wisconsin side of the river or face the consequence. As far as a 5 fish bag limit on the Wisconsin side of the Mississippi, I’ve never heard of it. I do fish pool 5 alot. There is a ten fish limit on the Minnesota side of pool 5 and also pool 8 and maybe one or two other pools that I’m not sure of. So if you fish for gills on these pools, do not get caught on the Minnesota side with more than 10 gills, even if you caught them on the Wisconsin side.

You would think there would be “boundary waters regulations” period, not seperate Minnesota boundary and Wisconsin boundary waters rules Anything to make it miserable.
