By the subject line…I thought you were looking for Pug.

Seriously…I use stink bait during late July and August mostly. But that’s just me…I know a guy from IA that uses Sonnys (original) exclusivly…gets it by the 5 gallon pail.

If your not getting bite in 10 minutes move…there are no cats in the area…

Stink bait is about all we use too. Weve been getting cats since the end of May on it, mostly lake fishing. Sometimes a bobber, but mostly on the bottom. I didnt know you could get it by the 5 gal pail, that would be a lot cheaper. From the cats we catch though, most smaller ones come on stinkbait. It is very rare for us to get one over 5lbs on stinkbait.

I have a jar of something sitting down at Everts to try. The fella that gave it to me said it works better than Sonny’s.

I’m new to the stink bait scene, but it sure seems like Sonny’s Super Sticky is the bar that other baits are judged by.

Sonny’s comes out of IA too…Now that I think about it…most all stink baits come out of IA????

Wonder if this has anything to do with Sean Lyons??

Generally speaking it seems that stink will put more cats on your hook, but smaller than cut bait.

Last year the largest channel I heard of was 22 pounds from stink.

I also fished with a freind last year that didn’t believe in stink…at the end of the night…I had 5 he had zip using cut bait. My largest was around 5 lbs the smallest being about 2 pounds.

My point to him was that I had action while he was waiting for Mr Big.

The one draw back is that the Favorite Wife and Favorite Daughter won’t let me bring the stuff along when they are in the boat.

I have to keep my jar o’ Sonny’s outdoors, thanks to my FW. I discovered last week that it not only works for channel cats. It’s also an excellent raccoon attractant. Just the small raccoons, though.

Does Moore’s or anyone around the metro sell Sonny’s?

My best success is with premo original with minced garlic added. green or red tubes and sickle hooks. Treble will catch them dinks.

Sonnys is what I use in either blood or original and I don’t really find a difference. IMO its a warm water bait and has good retention on the hook. It will catch a lot of catfish but I believe cut bait will catch the bigger ones.

Last summer, I called Sonny himself. He agreed with you Old Bear.
We were talking about tourney’s an he said something like…if he could use two rods he would have sonny’s on one and cut on the other…if no bites in 10 minutes he would move on.

Not only is it a good catchin’ bait but it’s a good indicator if there are fish around.

I haven’t check at Moores this year, but in the past Bob’s carried two sizes…the jar and the bucket.

The 14 oz jar runs $4 to $5 most places and the 45 oz bucket runs around $15.

Both Moores (Mpls) and Everts (near Redwing) have pleanty on hand.

PS when you go to Moores…make sure you open the jar at least twice while in side. The ladies love it!

I use a lot of Sonny’s and I catch no small fish. It works from mid may-Sept. some spots I’ll wait an hour or two. 10 minutes might be fine on a river but the lake I fish you want a good slick of scent out there and then they come to you. If you want to see some Sonny’s cats go down a few posts to the Mendota GTG post. Every fish picture I posted came on Sonny’s blood bait. I find the blood works better than the other flavors but who is counting.

Up North! I needed a confidence boost . And remember the tan you were teasing me about? Well, the new nickname is lobster boy. You know you do all that night fishing and you end up forgetting the essentials…like sunscreen.

With this hot weather i’ve been smelling an occasional whif coming from somewhere in my van and couldn’t figure out what it was until now. I looked in the back thinking i might have smashed a jar with the tools i’ve been hauling around and uncovered some sonny’s that we used a few weeks ago, i guess it was just letting out a fishing signel and wasen’t broken. By the smell of it it hasen’t lost its punch so Im going to take it fishing after it cools down a little tonight in a couple holes in the local creek, it should be good. Ive been a little hungry for some catfish fillets, now im really hungry! 1 1/2 to 2 pounders with some homemade tarter sauce and coarse chopped onions sound good right about now!!
