I think Jake practices this smile in front of a mirror or something. In addition to just getting married, and going on a fine trip, he manages to stick his first Mendota channel cat. It was a slow night and we missed a few bites.

Jake goes by Chamberchamps on the IDA if you didn’t place him. Not to be out done:

Those fish are not starving! Must be binge eating if they are that fat and still taking the bait. That’s the way it should be!

That was the first of (hopefully) many Mendota cats. I really needed to get on the water after the wedding, boy am I glad that’s over. Night fishing for cats is awesome, I hope to repeat it many times over.

Thanks again for taking me out Kevin. Hopefully this will become a habit.

These are still all females but the bite has slowed down a bit. This is the biggest so far this year 16#2oz 33inches long.

    – doh!
There’s been so much talk of spawning, I never stopped to think they might be chunkified with roe.

    Pug,

These are spawned out females. The go on a serious feed after the spawn to recover the energy they used doing the deed. After spawning the channel cat males guard the nest. They should be leaving now if they haven’t already. Then they both go on a feed.

There’s no post-spawn recovery where the bite slows like with other fish? I guess I am not too old to learn!

I guess you could say we are in the pause now. Instead of 10-15 fish I get 2 or 3.

Those cats have the same shape as I do! Wonder if I was a fat cat in an earlier life.

Glad you got Chambers on some good ones WK!

Now you just need to talk him into a honeymoon on the lake.

I tried and tried and tried, but I lost.

We wound up going to Aruba instead. True to form, I chartered a boat and did some trophy open sea fishing.

Action was slow, but the payoff was huge. I’m still waiting for pic’s via e-mail. I’ll post them when I get them.
