You guys might be wondering why a rod holder company is in the cat forum…It was I…my fault.

I borrowed one from Everts to try about about a month ago, replacing one of my side Cabelas/Scotty holders. I didn’t like it. Lifting the rod straight up was just unnatural for me since I’ve been using the “lift out” holders for so long.
In a nut shell, I was too lazy to take it off…and with three lift out holders, I was getting confused. I’m the type of guy that likes everything the same…don’t have to think about it…habit becomes natural.

The other night when the 51 pounder hit, for a split second I realize that I picked up the rod out of the Folbe holder like it was natural…then turned off the line out alarm and set the hook. When I hooked the 14 pounder a few moments later…I watched myself lift out the rod and realized that I had trained myself…just like I had trained myself to lift out and up with the Scotty style holders. I’ve always like the Berkley holders…the ones with the Z wire on the top, for the same reason I now like the Folbe’s…just set it into the holders and then just pick it up…naturally.

Yesterday morning, I installed two more Folbes and I’ll be replacing my last Scotty hopefully tomorrow. The screw holes lined up exactly where my Atwood and Scotty holders were.

The Folbe Advantage holder was designed for Steelhead and Sturgeon fishing out west. I’ve never heard of a rod holder breaking…never experiance a failure…but once you hold one of these in your hands…you’ll know a fish won’t break them. Super strong!

I don’t go on the line too often, but these are the top of the line rod holders for big cats and giant sturgeon. Check them out for yourself and you decide.

PS Joel, the owner is around here somewhere…going by the display name Slack-Line.

I have to agree with Brian 100% on this one! (I don’t agree with him too often.) These rod holders are simply the easiest holders I’ve ever used! A simple “lift” of the rod and it’s out! No having to lift it out over the edge of the boat with the chance of dropping it in the drink! If your thinking of getting some of these…And you can’t get ahold of Dean at Evert’s.Feel free to get ahold of me.

I thought I was going to see the large pail of Sonny’s super sticky.
