I didn’t want to hijack the photo thread….

    Again, Welcome to IDA!

    What rivers do you fish?

What baits were you and your wife using?

and how the heck did you get your wife to hold it for a picture??

I fish on the MN. I’ve been out catfishing 5 times now total in my life. Whew, it’s definitely fun! Different game than I’m used to, that’s for sure. I was reading about cattin last year a bit. Then went to sturgeon outing this sprint up at the rainy and everyone says “dude if you think this is fun, try catfishing”. So I decided I’d check out the BPCL, get some gear, and figure out what this is all about. Bought some gear down at Bobs, caught some bullies from the crow river, and giver nuts. Tried once from shore near Carver where I live, but I didn’t like the lack of mobility on shore. I like fishin from a boat. I’ve been out 4 times in my boat between Shakopee and the mississippi. Skunked once, caught fish the other 3 times. I usually bring my dog. He’s a PITA sometimes but he loves fishing so much I can’t really leave him home. He’d be mad for a week if he saw me leave with the boat and left him here. Bob’s bullheads rock, I’ve caught 3 flatheads on them so far plus my wife got one!

I lucked out with my wife that day just due to the cold weather. She’s a nurse, and nurses have to deal with lots of crap — sometimes literally. She usually won’t hold a fish, and when I say “but you’ll touch blood and crap at work” she says “that’s because I have gloves.” Well, it was cold enough on Saturday (50 with lots of wind) so that luckily she had gloves on, so I said she had to hold it

We were out Saturday too and we didn’t notice the cold wind in the begining because we got two quick runs. A half hour of silence and the endorphins wore off, we noticed. Bob’s bullies come in handy on a Saturday when the honey-do and do again list has you running late.

Now that I think of it, we might have seen you. You remember a couple of guys trying to anchor up river from you in the dark? If you do, I apologize. I didn’t want to fish there, but I wasn’t driving. We thought we could anchor up river, but the anchor isn’t made for the river I guess.

Oh that was you. No problems, I wouldn’t have minded you guys fishing there. I was thinking maybe you guys would have stopped and asked how the fishing was or something. We ended up with 2 small ones, 24 and 25 inches, about 10:15 and 10:45., then nothing. Convinced my wife to stay out til 1:00, that was as late as she’d go in that weather. Can’t wait til it’s T-shirt and shorts weather all night long. But who knows, maybe the cats turn off when it gets that warm? I don’t know, being a rookie. Next time ya see me, give a hollar!

I hear you about the weather. It feels strange to be fishing flats when it is that cold, but even stranger when the water felt as warm as it did compared to the air.

They won’t turn off as it gets warmer. You’ll start seeing fish pretty soon with nips in their back battling others for breeding areas. They just get ornerier and that’s a good thing.

    Sounds like Hanson!

Well, gloves aren’t going to work for my wife.

You now have catfish slime in your blood and it will always be there. By looking at your photos…you’ve had a good teacher or have done a LOT of reading.

Keep the photo’s coming…we always love to see whiskered fish pics!
