Thinking about getting the G-Loomis SAR1084C for sturgeon. I really think this rod would be the ticket for detecting bites and getting consistent hookups. Its a bit of cash for a sturgeon stick, but this years sturgeon excursion was already the best fishing trip i have ever been on, so id say its worth it Any comments?

I really liked using my Berkley Glow stick that I got from Bob Moore! It Was great for detecting light bites and it had the backbone to pull them in! They have a good price tag at about $39. I am sold on these rods now in the dark of night you can flash them with light and they glow great. You can also put batteries and they have LED lights in the bottom have of the rod. Check them out. I know Bob has a better selection of them than any other place I have been!

Ps If your local baitshop does not have them ask them to order one in for you!

I have a catfish rod similar to that i use when its dark and late on the river and im . But once use use the best, in my opinion, its hard to fish with something that reminds u more of a 2×4 than a fishing rod. Not to say that they aren’t good rods, they definetly have their place and uses, but once u experience what a real high quality rod is, its tough to go back.

I think a loomis would really be a excessive, and maybe poor choice for sturgeon fishing. Thats way too much coin to spend sight-unseen.

Many cat rods have the same qualities needed for sturgeon fishing. If you really want a specialty sturgeon rod, I would look closely at these 3 rods.

Tiger Rod(made by ugly stick) 12-30# line rating.. by far the best *tip* out there, and a ton of back bone, a handle made for fighting big fish.

Boss Rods 17-30 line rating(we call them #3’s), nice tip, great lifting power, good fighting handle.

Surge Rods.. the medium heavy has a good tip to it, but possibly more backbone then the others.

Th best rods wont always have 3 digit price tags. If you feel better about spending 3 digits.. let me know, i’ll buy one and sell it to you at an inflated price

Fear, PM Bob Bowman or Dan Larson. They were using their muskie gear Loomis brand. I thought they were great rods for the fish we were fighting.

Yeah, I used THIS G-LOOMIS MUSKY ROD , but i thought the tip was kinda stiff for detecting some bites, and caused a few to drop the bait possibly.

I thought there rods were longer than that, but I could easily be wrong. My vision was skewed occasionally there.
