Only one trip out and didn’t spend much time fishing…but here’s the first of the year.

    Ugly [censored] I will admit.

Not to hijack your post but can you tell me what model ram mount you have there for your electronics?

Its OK. BK showed a walleye…so

No idea what the ram model is, it’s probably the longest one they make, definitely the longest one you’ll find in Cabelas or FF. I wouldn’t recommend it BTW. Gotta really crank down on the handle in rough conditions. It has it’s perks too though.

Now you gotta show a channel cat picture.

Bet it felt like a wet sock on BK’s rods. Probably the lightest fighting walleye the gentleman in the photo has ever had.

Walleyes on cat gear is just a waste of time.

here’s a couple beaut’s. First one is a 25.5 pounder, 37″ long (kinda hard to tell from that view but that’s such an awesome picture). I helped that 9YO kid (Drew) catch that one while about 20 people (family and friends) watched on. He was kind of excited but I don’t think he truly realizes what he’s got on his shoulder.

The second pic is me with my personal best…23.0 pounds, also 37″ (just not as wide as the other).

Caught them both at Lake Mendota in Madison over this last weekend. There were about 6 or 7 20+ pounders caught during that time and a lot of new PB’s. We were using cut bait and they were hammering it.

It was a great weekend filled with many memories.

I’m waiting for Kevin’s comments too.

BTW, every cat that we caught is still swimming and growing…I want to catch that 25er when he grows up.

Actually we would call em shakers not fiddlers. Fiddlers are too small to get on a hook. I guess it is time to dust off the gear. I’ve been working 9-10 hour days for 9 months straight. I’m so tired I can’t get motivated. I kind of dislike the prespawn bite. You get tired of catching 10 pounders every couple minutes. How is a guy supposed to drink beer when that is going on?

The action has been off some this year Kevin…I think the late sprig and the hard winter has had an affect on them. Should pick up a bit though now that the water is warming.

There is still time for a beer between bites this year, but yes, I usually forego the beer during this time of year on Mendota. I have had occasions in the past when the cats have piled up in the bottom of the boat because we just didn’t have time to weigh, get a pic and release before the next couple rods double over form the bite…it’s a really tough problem that I really look forward to though.

See you on the water sometime…Ken

    28″x16″ Wednesday evening!
And before anyone asks, that’s my lucky fishing shirt, it says “Fish Naked. It adds color to your cheeks!”
And I am not kidding when I say this shirt also gets the conversations rolling with girls that pass by when I am shore fishing

Channel cat’s have been on a mean bite below the Prairie Island spillway if anyone from the area is looking to target them.

If a couple guys have nothing to do for an hour…why not toss out a couple lines?

First decent sized channel on the Minnesota this year. Tough fishing after the cold front.

Friday night i landed 10 cats between 20 and 26″. Tied right onto a large tree just outside the channel markers north of Pepin a few miles. Had another close to 20 hits that didn’t hook up.

Had two lines litterally rubbing against the side of the tree, those were the hot lines. Drag buttoned up tight to keep them out of the wood.

Phone took a duker sunday morning otherwise i’d have some photos to share.

Cut sheephead was the winner. I have fished the last three weekends without a single hit on sheephead. They wanted nothing else friday…WHich was good cuz i was sick of messing around with chicken liver!!

OOPS, meant saturday. Rain screwed up my weekend brain
