Was watching Walleye Dan on TV this morning fishing Rainy River for Sturgeon. He landed one that measured over 60″, looks like fun!

I fish right there every year, pb is 56.25″ last October friend got a pb @ 54″ LOTS of 35-45″
Amazing fish to catch I don’t gear up like they do, 14lb fire line med action rod take 35-60 mins.

Using a heavier rod combo is better on the fish.

    X2

Plus they fight better when you can put the coals to them. I love it when I have the drag as tight as it goes on my 6500 and 7000’s and they can still pull out drag.

That was a good show. Dan is getting pretty close to Gillespie in their hype, but doesn’t bother me. I like that Jeremy, he’s a cool cat and does really well with Lidner folks too.

You guy see the photo of one on the croix this winter. 74″ and estimated over 100 pounds. Think it was on blue ribbons fb page.

I agree with you, when I catch them I’m walleye fishing (jigging) not trying to catch them. Please don’t think I’m a tool

I fished for them the first time up at Rainy last year using my cat gear. Several fish I just hung on with the fishing rod bent waiting for them to tire because I couldn’t budge them. I can’t imagine a 70″+ fish.

I just watched it. That was a good show. I’ve never seen his show before.

He’s the only other person I’ve seen anchor like that. It works great on the rainy.

LOL, that reminds me of the one day we were out there fishing. All of the sudden the wind picked up and everybody’s anchors started giving. What a cluster with all those boats in a tight area (There was still a lot of ice, only the channel in the bay was open). We tried re-anchoring once and I looked at my nephew and said, lets head into the river, I’m not dealing with this.

It wasn’t an easy decision because I got 2 of my biggest for the trip within 2 minutes of anchoring.

I was lucky enough to get up to Rainy twice last year. The first trip was cold as heck and was a bust – 1 sturgeon boated. Feeling like we got our butt kicked – we decided to head back the next weekend and HOLY CRAP we kicked some butt! Multiple doubles, multiple 60’s, multiple double 60’s…

This trip will be a trip I make every year now. It is a must!

    I’m always interested when there’s a history on a(ny)fish.

Doesn’t matter if they were recaptured in the same location or if they’ve moved 20 miles. Post it up when you can.

PS most people look at the whiskers…I’m a tail kinda guy.
