I know what river I’ll be hitting. I need a canoe or a Kayak.

So is anyone actually going to Baudette to fish for sturgeon in April?

I usually do walleye and sturgeon in the same trip. I try to target he last weekend of walleye if the conditions are right.

    All of us 2-1-8’ers!!
I wouldn’t mind fewer boats up there either. Win/win/win!

Will be going with a group of 10-12 April 25-27. Last year was tough fishing for us, but we still had a great time!!

Don’t forget the ice fishing gear.

We might end up going up about that time. We’ll see. I am pretty sure there will be openings somewhere.

You mean the launches? I don’t know if there are places to camp anywhere around there, but I presume at least one of the lodges might. But I don’t know about public and I don’t know if there was public if they would be open.

I just know that some guys do it early in the year at birchdale and was wondering if that is acceptable year round or just an OK thing to do in early april.

I do have a place to stay mid-way between Baudette and International falls, but i hate to ask.
HOnestly if i go in early may, i’ll probably spend the entire time on the water and sleep in the boat like I do all fall on the st. croix.

Can make for some unpleasant nights though if your not prepared

Maybe send an email to the DNR regional office. I assume they manage it.

Put the @ between fisheries and state

The quick search I did said nothing about season camping, so I assume it is open to camping all year. Although that is a lot of miles to drive on an assumption.

We are getting rooms for like $25 a night…. Why the interest in camping, if I remember right its was decently cold last time we were up there end of April beginning of May.

    Just curious.

If you don’t mind me asking, where are you staying? That’s a good price.

Cuz i don’t mind it. I do it all fall long on the St Croix, several nights raining and in the 30’s. Also because i’ll most likely just sleep in the boat, and the more hours in the boat – better odds of that 75″ fish

Also, i’m kind of planning it to be a pretty flexible date and won’t have a group to split a cabin.

I believe the Birchdale landing campground (Nelson Park) is run by the community of Birchdale. I’m not sure if there is info on the web or not. Franz Jevne state park camping is open year round, and is free, but the road is not maintained in winter. I was told by a C.O. there is no camping allowed at the other landings.
