I think with this weather coming in this may be that last of the cat bite.

Is that when the walleyes start biting up there? Those are some nice cats.

Don’t get up. Nice cats you got there.

Doesn’t the channel cat bite continue on through the winter ? I suppose it’s harder through the ice but at least until it starts icing up there are catchable fish… No?

Yes it does but when the water temps drop suddenly the cats
metabolizem does too. And it seems to shock them. And they stop feeding as much until the temps stabilize. I have many years ago fished though the ice on the Red River and caught them. The cat fish school up in deep holes with less current. And when found can be very vulnerable to over harvest. The river in the F/M area is dangerous, caution must be used. North and south of town should be ok but know where you are . Still can be unpredictable. I don not recommend it unless your with some one who has been out and knows the river. Now up north it is a different story.
From Grand Forks all the way in to Canada lots of walleye fishing though the ice I have not heard of much targeting of the cats.

I don’t target walleyes very often these days , but yes fall and spring is when they are found schooled up. In the F/M area the dams where years ago good barriers and the fish would stack up under them , now days I don’t know. As the dams have been improved for fish to move. Again up north seems to be where the action is. But there are walleyes down here too.

That’s because your targeting a fish that fights better then a state record walleye.
