Final Week for me

I guess our favorite fishing is like the majority of our lives, we can’t have it all and gotta give up some to gain something else. I will have to call my 2013 St.Croix Lake Sturgeon season quits on Friday the 11th next week. On Saturday the 12th I will be getting up at 3am to get on a 6am plane to Sanibel Island, Florida for a week long family stay. Will I be fishing? Of course, I have done this trip to various gulf coast spots for 5 years and I got bitten by the shark bug. (better than being bitten by a shark itself!)

But for next week, I have a planned shore fishing trip with two buddies from college to get some sturgeon from the Croix. We have a kayak to get baits out, so I would say we are looking for the most productive spot we could get them from shore at. I will be bringing nightcrawlers, suckers, and we will use any rough fish we catch for bait as well. I think we have the King Plant discharge area, the Stillwater bridge area, and Hudson park area in mind so far. I have told these guys to come ready, and don’t want them to be skunked, so any info as to the most likely spot to get some action would be appreciated. Anyone with some info can PM me too as I know how honey holes can get raided after the word gets out. Thanks!

I shore fish off of Bonita Beach (within miles of Sanibel) for shark. My only advise concerning using cut bait is that I have noticed most of my shark hits were on heads. I use Ladyfish as my bait. Not sure why that has worked best but they have large black eyes. Maybe that attracts the sharks. Who knows. Good luck and post pix! Nothing better than black tip shark on the grill! …RR

Trust me Rooster, pictures will be up as soon as I return home! So far I plan on bringing my Sturgeon and Flathead gear, as well as a heavy Bass setup for baitfish and having some fun with Snook and Redfish in the surf! I have had good luck in the past with Ladyfish as well and if I can find some Spanish Mackerel I will be in heaven since they bleed like a human finger! Now I just gotta figure out how the heck I will get my rods on the plane. Can’t take anything over 6 foot with me as carry on.
