DNR NEWS – FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Missouri anglers face fines for catfish over-limits

Two anglers from Missouri face fines and restitution for over-limits of catfish caught on Lac qui Parle, according to the Minnesota Department of Natural Resources (DNR).

Conservation Officer Ed Picht observed two people fishing on a public fishing pier on Lac qui Parle and saw one of the anglers was using two lines.

Upon further investigation, he found that Frankie Munger and Roger Murphy had 14 catfish on a stringer and 36 catfish fillets in their cooler. The limit on catfish is five with only one more than 24 inches. They were also in possession of too many catfish over length. Fines and restitution for the pair totaled $600.

“The men didn’t think it was a big deal to keep too many catfish,” Picht said. “In reality, most of the people who fish the Minnesota River system this time of year are targeting catfish.”

Anyone witnessing a fish or wildlife violation is encouraged to contact the 24-hour, toll-free Turn In Poachers (TIP) hotline at 800-652-9093. Cell phone users can dial #TIP.

Hmmmm, so fishing two lines, each guy 11 fish over the limit, not paying attention to length requirements.

    $600.00 fine? That’s it?

They’d had fined them more if it were 1 muskie.

$600 to a cat fisherman is equivalent to $10000 to a muskie guy.

14 fish and they got fined? Not cutting on the Minn. DNR but Its hard for me to understand that one, especially the length limit.

I’ve thought it might be fun to fish out there for channels. I don’t know about the size of the fish out there, I never see any reports.

14 whole fish (on the stringer and 18 more fish cut into 36 filets.

32 fish total or 22 fish over limit.

Yup, as us cat folks say, this ain’t no Massura or Ioway…or cheese land.

Ya I see now, The cooler with the 18 fish in it is what I didn’t see, Its 15 a day here with possession of 30 per person on inland streams, no limits on the Mississippi daily or possession. And now you can buy a third line license if your out pole fishing. You can catch 15 before midnight and 15 after if your out fishing all night and go home with your 2 day possession limit. 2 guys can go home with 60 fish if half were caught before midnight and the rest after. No limits on bullheads.
