I’m heading down to the Minnesota this afternoon and would like to bring some bullheads. Anyone have a spot in the north metro on where to catch some? It sounds like I’ll have a open seat if anyone wants to go .

Bunch of them by the bridge at long lake. Can’t catch anything else but perfect bait sized bullheads. Don’t know if it is still the same this was a week ago.
Ps: i took a nature walk and got stalked by a deer for 5 minutes it was intense once I noticed he had fuzzy antlers and wasn’t a doe… A deer… A female deer… Watch your back for baby bucks.June 15, 2013 at 7:23 pm #1178049Did a lot of sorting but found a few at the first spot I tried. What size do you guys normally use?
June 15, 2013 at 7:33 pm #1178050Well… Let me tell you! Personally first shown how by professor BK. after many questions I found the bigger the better. But I think there are some rules.
If I were a huge hungry flathead a bullhead around 7″-10″ sounds like lunch.
June 15, 2013 at 7:49 pm #1178054Many of the ponds in blaine have them. We found a small creek full of them last time out. If I would of seen this earlier I would of said to stop over and take the rest of mine.

And may be dumb thought but I always like to think of the health of the fish and if the fish inhales it head first then we set the hook or somehow gets turned Round in fight don’t want those spikes tearing up the inside of anything. But they have been eating fish their whole lives so
June 25, 2013 at 1:11 am #1179903I use 9/0 Super J hooks. When the hook is set the idea is to rip the hook out of the bully and to hook into the fish.
The “rule” in the boat is, if the bullhead comes back after a bite, the customer has to eat it. We have some great hook sets.
…and you’re right, who cuts the spines for the catfish in the wild?
On the other hand, if it makes a person feel better, go for it.

Didn’t you mommy cut the crust off your samiches when you were little?
June 25, 2013 at 5:06 pm #1180021I wouldn’t cut the spines. IMHO, when you are fishing for flatheads, the scent from the skin is enough reinforcement for the flathead that there is no funny business going on. They are keying in on the movement. To that end, I want my bullheads healthy and putting up a good struggle on the hook.
nhammInactiveRobbinsdalePosts: 7348June 25, 2013 at 5:34 pm #1180038Sounds good guys. Just wasn’t sure if the new age flatheads were similar to our new generations in the human race. Entitled, coddled, not liking any type of difficulty in life so maybe the “crust” would need to be off their bullie. Heck might even grind it up, bread and deep fry it out about 3 strips of bacon on it and some cheese and bam catch myself the obese flattie that only eats processed bait.
June 26, 2013 at 9:41 pm #1180368If you really want to catch a flathead, spank the IQ out of your bullhead he’ll become as mean as a felon.

Took em right over the knee and it definitely got it’s IQ lowered, but will the bullie have enough self esteem to go catch that big fish I want so bad?
June 27, 2013 at 2:42 am #1180427LOL, after that corporal punishment I suspect it is going to go pick a fight with a flathead. Keep the clicker tight!
July 2, 2013 at 12:05 am #1157704I don’t like to complain about bait but man is everyone carrying some small suckers. We went out looking for bullheads and only managed to find a few so I called a few bait stores on are way out to see if any had any decent suckers. Found one that had what I’ve been getting for $8 a doz. but sold them for $13 a doz. I need to find some more spots for bullies.
