Went out last night and the bite was on..everything seems to be on a feeding frenzy. I think the water level has something to do with this, the water level is about 3.5ft higher from 4days ago. Cast out to the middle of channel and let the current take my line about 2ft.from the bank and that’s where they were biting..all on crawlers, no bites on liver and leech. I kept only 2 cats and one sheep(son wanted to try it) bc that’s all I can eat. It was a darn great night, my soul is at peace once again

Thanks for saving me the time to clean them and the pain of an empty stomach after cooking them. I’ll stick to cutting them up and sticking them on a hook.

Maybe it’s just me, but I have ate quite a few sheepshead in my day, grampa said that was all he got when he was growing up so that was what we got growing up. If you trim them right, I don’t think they’re bad at all. In fact, he’s been giving them to grandma for the 50+ years they’ve been married, he just says they’re stripers.

I don’t know if that’s a compliment to the bass or an insult to the sheepies.

After a buncha barley pops, sheepies ain’t so bad fried up in donut mix. The rest is good fertilizer investment in rhubarb pie, but bury them dep, cover careflly and don’t spill any liquid–attracts coons.
There is a great film on U-tube showing how to take the freshwater pearl grunting stones out when you clean them.

It was probably the way I cooked it, I’ve had sheepie before but it wasn’t this fishy and tough, but then again that one was caught in a different part of the state.
