    Hi Brian Old Buddy

Take a look at this bobbin, I just remove it from an inflated vest.
The tablet never disolved, it looks like it did deteriated though.

    July ’07??

They don’t totally dissolve as you can see. Humidity takes a toll.

If you take a moment to read the directions, you might fine (by putting on your bifocals) they should be changed annually. Not once every 6 years whether it needs it or not.

However, if you are the thrifty type, just unscrew the co2 tank and screw it back in before heading out onto the water. As long as the indicator is green, it’s ok to screw it back in…red means the pill is shot and it will discharge the gas if screwed in.

So, since it discharged on you, I’m hoping you left it inflated over night to see if it leaked. Might as well get some use out of your $18.00.

Kidding aside, with any inflatable there is maintenance. Please ensure the directions are read and it helps to follow them.

Got my money’s worth out of that one

    Instructions ? Fine Print?

I thought it would completely dissolve before it would activate.

    Thanks

    No sir they dont

I have had 2 go off, when you buy a refill kit make sure the date on the yellow ribbon matches the date on the back of the package.

BTW .. white powder in the yellow bobbin faces down when installed properly !

Little price to pay for optimum comfort while being optimally safe…believe me, I wish I had one last year.

First I need to buy a boat.

I have had mine inflate three times now, but this is the first time that the tablet was pretty much intact.

Then how can the bobbin be dated 07?

    Are you getting old ones?

Once the C02 cartridge is removed, all parts can be examined without worry of an accidental discharge.

That would include checking for expiration dates, pulling on the cord, removing the bobbin completely to check the red/green indicator.

Again, for those thinking of using an inflatable, there is yearly maintenance with all inflatables.

Full recharge kit under $19.00 (only needed if Co2 discharges)
Annual replacement of bobbins $10.00 for 3.
Inflate PFD at least annually (by mouth) to check for leaks. More often if there’s a suspected leak.

I treat mine like a dress shirt. On a hanger in my camper when not in use as opposed to in a compartment in the boat or under the boats cover. If I had a garage and the boat was left uncovered, they would be hanging on the boat seats.

Just my two cents of PFD tips. If I would know which day I was going to fall in the drink, I would only wear a PDF that day.
