Swallowed my pride

Been out fishing here and there between work and tolerable weather and it’s always the same, no keepers. This past Friday my coworker and her hubby took me to anew spot and she caught one keeper and another lady down the way caught one and didn’t want to keep her fish. As they were leaving my coworkers husband said it’s not worth it to clean 2 fish and if I want to keep it. I never ever take someone else’s catch but it’s been so long since I’ve had fish I said Yeah! I’ll keep them. well they were darn delicious and hope I’ll never have to keep someone else’s catch again

Pretty common to have a community catch here. If someone is keeping fish others will give theirs to him if he wants them. I usually decline but sometimes I have accepted to get enough for a mess. Just have to watch that you do not give away, or receive over your limit.

The one thing I hate is when I have a stringer of fish and the majority came from someone else. Only happened once but it surely wasn’t enjoyable.

I always enjoy catching them myself, but my tummy doesn’t know the difference between weather I caught them, or somone else did

I don’t get the opportunity to keep fish very often, do to the fact that I’m always muskie fishing

So if somone is offering up fresh fish, and I don’t have to put my muskie rod down for them, I’m all in

if you would be willing to give a few fish away you should not be too proud to accept a few

Shucks, no need to swallow the pride. Many people have a hard time catching more then two Muskies in a day.

So true. I like to eat the critters to much to care if I caught it or not. Unfortunately can’t eat as much as you want with all the guidelines they set.

Really? How much do you want/need to eat?

I think 5 in possession is plenty for 1 licensed angler. You can always go get more.

Not so much the keeping part but the eating. One meal a week means about keeping your limit one time and it lasting about 2 months for me. Curse the coal plants and their mercury. Would love to eat some fish 2x a week during the summer at least.

I’ve met some great people by asking if they want 1 or 2 fish I’ve caught, especially when ice fishing. And the other way around too. I might have 10 or so and if somebody wants to give me a couple more I’ll take them. You can make solid friendships this way and maybe return the favor to them someday.

You can always just ignore the guidelines set by the DNR like me.

Then again, I eat fish I catch about only a few times a year.

Well I am a lil rebellious when it comes to the government telling me what to do
There are no magical drugs to fix the issue yet so I know that no crony politicians had their way just to make some $$ for drug companies, so assuming that they probably just have the guidelines there for you own sake. And searching through old posts on this site, as well as others it is something I don’t need to chance, bc it seems if you do go over that eventually illness will fall upon you.
We got to reap what we sow right? I figured it is my punishment for having electricity, curses!! Why cant we all be Amish!
