Shore Fishing – Back to my Roots

Since my nephew has had his boat I have been avoiding shore fishing. I get antsy and bored fishing alone and its not easy to pick up and try a new spot.

Well my nephew is in Cancun and the girlfriend has bronchitis. So I’ll be going over my old maps and figuring out a spot to pitch plastics and then soak a crawler, cut sucker or bully as it gets dark.

Anyone else shore fishing Pool 1,2 or the Minnesota Sat or Sunday evening?

This high of current only cats I have found from shore are behind an extremely large eddy or hanging no more than 3′ from shore. Cut sucker has out produced worms for myself. Everything north of SAF. Good luck if they are there they are tearing at it. I posted a pic in the post on leeches and on how beat up its fins were I would guess they are really hugging structure tight. Seen that a most of em. Problem with the stretch up this way there really are no backwater areas for fish to hang out in.

My dad used to take me shore fishing when I was a kid down at Crosby I think it was, where the Minnesota and Miss. meet. We’d bring home fish to put in the tomato garden, My mom’s plants were always huge! I’ve been thinking about doing it again as well, great memories! Let me know how do if you could please. Thanks, Scott

A trip up to the Coon Rapids Dam might be worth it. I virtually grew up there. The back water on the CR side has had some great catfish, walleye and smallie fishing this time of year. I’ve been considering heading there for Sunday morning with the canoe.

Hurry up and get that yard work done, sounds like the “catfish” are on a tear on the Croix

Your pretty limited on shore fishing at the up by the cr dam right now with the construction. The cr side is open but fenced off when you get to the island. I haven’t made it around to the other side of the river but would think they wouldn’t have as much fenced of since all of their equipment and dirt is coming from the cr side right now. Found some holes yesterday just below the dam in the boat that I plan on trying when the water comes down.

aww Pug.. I like your open seat invitation. I hate fishing alone too, it’s nice to have someone to joke with right.
    Good Luck this wknd.

The park where the rice creek meets the Mississippi river in Fridley used to be a favorite of mine.

As I am sure everyone knows, that was my spot too growing up. Well, mostly in the spring for carp. Our main lake was Moore.

we caught plenty of cats there to in the early summer months. Cut bait and high water seemed to go well on that spot. Cut up a few of those sucker and carp we caught. Later in the summer as the water levels dropped casting plastics or jigs crawlers around the sand bars produced walleyes.

Always heard it was a crappie spot there but dont think I ever caught one.
