This may be a strange question.. but I’ve been watching my little 2″ channel in the fish tank for weeks now and I have yet to see him sit still day or night. Granted I’ve never went and looked at 2am with a blacklight, but still he’s always moving.

If you are wondering, yes I did catch him.. #16 tungsten ice jig and 1 spike. Don’t know how he could even get that spike in his mouth.

Should say during the middle of the day he lays under a piece of driftwood on the bottom, but is still always swimming back and forth under the log.

I’ve seen them stop swimming after a few minutes in Crisco Bay.

Kevin, in winter when I’ve video taped the flatheads wintering the channel cats are frequently near by and they are always swimming. They might not be moving up stream much but they are always swimming.

Now that I think about it the only time I’ve ever noticed a channel not swimming was one I found in a large branch that had a hole in it. Looked like it was spawning.

I think they lay up for an hour or two in an area and not move much. Maybe thier fins move some too keep them steady in slight current but I do think they take a slight rest once in awhile.

I see its time to go back to dynamite to wake them up, to heck with wind up alarm clocks, they don’t work very good under water anyway.
