Casting out a mile from shore is why I love my Tekota. The thing is smooth.

For cats and sturgeon, smooth casting isn’t really a concern as long as a person isn’t bank fishing and wanting the most distance possible.

It’s not the casting that’s so smooth. If I had a throw-away rod that I didn’t care about, I’m confident that I could attach my line to the anchor and reel that sucker in with minimal effort or stress on the reel. Heck, I could probably replace the winch on my trailer with a 400te and be happy with it.

You can catch plenty of fish without problems with an Abu or Penn, but those Calcuttas are just a cut above the rest. It’s like tasting good beer for the first time. Once you have a good beer, why would you ever drink Busch Light again?

If casting was my main concern, I wouldn’t be wasting my time with a level wind reel.

I’ve used a Calcutta. My camper is full of Busch Lite.

The other thing to consider in my world (which is not the OP’s) is it would run me $1500. to replace the 7000’s I have. I would have to invoke the 30 day rule on that amount.
