I took my boy out to black dog on Saturday to fish for some cats, or anything for that matter. Only one channel, and one flathead and a few bullheads. He did pick up this 10 lbs carp that was the biggest fish he has ever caught. I don’t think you could wipe the smile off his face if you slammed his fingers in a car door! That is a beast of a carp and looks like he manhandled it well.
My daughter caught a nice eater channel earlier tonight and in its stomach there was quite a few crawdad pinchers, may have to pick up some preserved crays and try those next time.
He’ll definitely remember that one forever! River fishing at its finest!

Carp are a great fish to break kids into big fish. They are fairly easy to catch and fight like a horse. All of my kids learned to catch big fish on carp. Then it’s easy to go to a big old cat, bass or walleye from that. If they can sucessfully fight and land a 12 pound carp, they’re set for most anything in fresh water…cep maybe a flathead or muski, but that’s a different story.
Congrats to the young guy. He’s on his way to being another one of us.
