Randolf, you’re not living on the edge.

Wilcoxson, of Surprise, was in the yellow cliffs area of Bartlett fishing in 35-38 feet of water over a rock pile. He caught the flathead using an Ugly Stik fishing rod, Okuma 45D reel, 60-pound braided line, an 18-inch steel leader with a SPRO Power Swivel and, as bait, a live 2-pound carp.

That’s deep! What’s the deepest anyone on IDO has fished for flatheads? I realize that it is a reservoir, but still, I think the deepest I have fished is 10-15′?

The AZ guys are different. I read their chat sometimes because they are fishing when we can’t. I think the fish only live with access to deep water. One time I was reading a thread how the water was 110 or 115 degrees on top and it was hard to get bait down fast enough it wouldn’t die. They only have a few reservoirs to fish in. It is different.

Cool info, thanks for sharing. I can imagine fishing one of those desert reservoirs is a completely different animal. Most of them are just steep drop offs right from shore, no? I imagine there really isn’t must for skinny water.

I bet he’ll be busy with his guiding service after this.
