Had a little fun last night on Pool 4 using Fin-tech’s Zone-R Nuckleball. Caught this tree that turned into a giant 50lb + cat and a couple very nice eyes. Fought the cat for over 30 minutes. Next time I’ll be cutting the line! Can’t wait to get back out!

They are a hoot aren’t they!

This was from a few years ago when I caught this 23 pound walleye on a Fin Tech Title Shot “Magnum” Jig.

The cheeks were pretty tasty. Rest I gave a way.

    Nice fish!

Am always puzzled when people say that they should just cut the line when they hook a big catfish or sturgeon? Wasn’t reeling in that fish fun and a highlight you’ll always remember? Would you even remember in a few weeks the 2 or 3 eater eyes you missed out on catching while pulling this trophy in? Won’t you always remember that big cat?

Maybe cutting the line wouldn’t hurt the fish you have hooked, but maybe a bunch of line hanging from its mouth could cause it to get tangled and die…

But most importantly why would you want to just cut the line and cost yourself an experience which was obviously fun enough to post on a fishing forum.

Reading the subject line…he’s having some P4 fun.

Along the same lines, break offs whether intentional or not is why I now use a very strong net. Nothing like feeling a old rusty hook along your finger!

When you’re walleye fishing with other people in the boat, and the sun is going down and have been waiting all day for that, you’re wasting precious primetime fishing time for the others in the boat.. But I was only kidding, I wouldn’t cut the line. I definitely had a blast fighting this fish!

Thanks. The fish was just north of 50 inches.. and it maxed out my scale.. look at the picture. It pressed against my body from my chest to my feet. Plus the picture does it no justice as you can only see one side of it.

Did that flathead bite the hook? I’m guessing you snagged her? Nice fish!

    wildbeaver..

    1. A scale and tape measure don’t lie.

    2. I have no reason to lie because a 40 lb cat is the same as one over 50 lb cat to me

    3. Also, it was NOT snagged. Hooked it right in the mouth. That I can promise you. But if I did “snag it” than I snagged it in the mouth. weird

looks about ten inches short of your feet? nice fish either way. I would like to use your scale and tape. Looks like a solid 44-45″ google fifty inch flathead if you want some comparisons that head is awful small for a fifty+

Yeah that’s the problem. The picture only shows half the body. I’ll upload another picture tomorrow that shows the fish straight on.

It happens frequently when the fish is laying up stream and the boat is drifting down stream.

Naming the brand of jig really didn’t do anything for the brand. It could have been brand x and it would have foul hooked it.

If the weight of the big guy wouldn’t have been mentioned, the comments would have been “nice fish” from all around.

I’m guessing this is your largest fish ever MSM. My first flat was 15 pounds and I’ll never forget it, just like I’m sure you’ll have a hard time forgetting that one.

    Nice fish Sir!

I agree. That was a great fish and I’m sure it put up a great fight. Must have been quite a surprise. I bet for a second or two you thought you had the walleye of a lifetime hooked.

Don’t let everyone’s comments get you down. I am sure they got cabin fever real bad. This time last year I had many channels boated.

    Nice fish!

Yes, you probably did snag her in the mouth, no biggie, it happens. They have a dramatic under bite. If you are jigging over 50 fish with an under bite, it is going to happen.

Here is a couple of more photos!

My point being on the snag part of the fish is it would have been a legal fish to keep if I wanted too. I wasn’t implying the fish had the intention of hitting the jig.

Also, I listed the jig name because I figured people would be curious on what hook held up during the fight.

Lol enjoy as I did and thanks guys…

Assuming you are around 6′ tall or thereabouts, I can believe it was a 50. I dug up an old archived conversion chart here on IDO, and that fish could be as short as 46″ and still be 50#.

Don’t let the haters get you down man. You caught accidently what I have tried for years to catch

I disagree with this 100%. Fin-Tech Nuckle Ball Jigs are the best jigs I have ever used for snagging Catfish in the mouth. Classic fall pattern. If you don’t know that, you haven’t tried them.

And those Zone-Rs cut through the current and deep water beautifully!

    Nice fish!
