Last night? I was out there.

If you were the only other boat, we came in right behind you.

We had 4 fish with 0 for over 50″.

I’ve fished spots and caught nothing and moved on to other spots. Then I see people fishing the original spot and they have caught fish. Sturgeon are weird.

Took a sturgeon virgin fishing with me this weekend.

He reeled in a 47″ and a 54″ as well as a few shorts.

    I got a 46″

    Great weekend.

Got my cousin out for her first sturgeon adventure.

Motor was not being kind – so we had to use the ipilot and made it over to the nursery.

Our night started within 5 minutes of our first rod being in the water, just a little guy:

Second fish we started to get a little bigger at almost 40″:

Then all hell broke loose when my cousin saw the back rod “twitching” as she called it – she was a pro and started to reel it in the rod holder and it was fish on!

Third fish ever and the biggest fish I have had grace the boat this season at 58″.

What a great way to get someone hooked on sturgeon fishing! (still think it was the scotch in the boat, Macallans 12 year was the scotch of chose this night!)

We caught another 8 or so after that fish all under 40″. O and motor started on the way home – weird….

Yep every now and then that nursery kicks out a big one. Nice job!

That’s a nice one. Looks almost as round as LOW laker! I like seeing more fatter ones down here. I wonder if the girth has anything to do with shad cycles. But I digress.

Beautiful fish Jakob. I can only imagine the fight you had getting that one to the boat.

My biggest from the croix this year also happened to come on the smallest rod I’ve ever used for them, a medium action quantum bass rod lol.

I normally run mh channel rods or a mh graphite Muskie stick … Felt stupid and figured I’d try to get a smaller one on the tiny rod, of course I’d get a pb on it haha. 61×25

Isn’t that the way it always works?

How many times around the boat and anchor?

Shockingly, zero! There was a moment when the fish surfaced that the three of us on board froze. Three jaws hitting the boat floor simultaneously lol.

It’s why we sturgeon fish, right?

I get the excitement of a big bad azz ski exploding in front of your eye at the figure 8, but what can beat the brute power of a big azz sturgeon? More so if it comes out of the water!

…and those magical sturgeon fishing words of HOLY SHIP!! in unison.
