where can I get cats through the ice? (lake)

I dont have any ice fishing gear but I think im gonna start fishing with my son. Where can I find cats on the lakes.

Their is a few caught on Zumbro Lake in the winter. We catch them by accident . Never targeted them though.

You can use the MNDNR Lakefinder site to find stocking reports for any county in the state back to 1998. There are a few places in Hennepin and Anoka county that have channel cats in them.

I second the Zumbro. head down stream from the Fisherman’s Inn landing and fish the downstream corners on the first two small bays to your left. Both are good early season cat areas. The deep hole at the end of the elevator rails along Rattlesnake bluff is another good area.

I got on a school of really nice channels last year on lake Okabena in Worthington, MN. What a great fight they put up… I really had fun with them.

If you want a 20-30lb fish take a couple days and fish Lake Mendota. Bring a big auger.
