I thought someone caught a Laker on Pool 4 sometime ago that didn’t have a tail.

Anyone remember it or who posted it?

ScottK’s daughter Hanna hooked into this guy Friday. I think from the sounds of it, they all had a blast!

    That’s crazy. Looks healthy otherwise!

I wonder how long it has survived like that.

Not much will eat something that big and they really don’t need to be fast to catch a dead fish or invertebrate on the bottom.

I’m still surprised it came out of the water three times!

    Rare catch indeed.

Are all the fishing spots for sturgeon that crowded?

I think it was an accidental catch while walleye fishing, possibly in a tourney setting?

Yes, when the sauger bite kicks in, it gets a bit crowded. Anglers from all over the Midwest flock to L&D #3 for the bite.

Many paddle fish, sturgeon and flatheads are caught/snagged by vertical jigging.

I’ve been talking with the DNR about opening a catch an release season down that way for 6+ years now. Baby steps.

The fish was caught the day before Saugerama. We are the second boat in the background of the picture I think. It was a blast watching the event unfold and the young lady did a great job fighting the fish. It came out of the water 2 or 3 times which I find interesting with the lack of a tail. There were boats in the area she was but everyone was considerate and it was far from crowded—you should have seen it the next day
