1.5 hours on the river last night – 1 fish – 1 happy angler.

62×24 monster hit the boat at 10:00 PM last night. Enjoy.

Congratulations Jakob on the trophy sturgeon. The length to girth chart shows a 62×24 sturgeon weighs 60lbs.
I bet that he gave you a real good fight. What bait did this monster hit?

    Well played! Congrats!

If you are only going to catch one, it might as well be a memorable one.

You’ve worked hard this year and your record shows it. Just goes to show that good stuff comes to those that do thier homework…of course, your home work was all in your boat.

Great fish and I bet a great fight.

    A little more info:

    Gear used:
    7′ St. Croix Premier Med/heavy
    Abu Garcia 6500 – 80lb powerpro
    8″ braid leader
    3 oz bank sinker

    Bait used:
    Half crawler/half sucker/full crawler/sucker head combo

We were fishing in roughly 32′ and was half way through the bottle of scotch when the fish hit.

I use folbe rod holders and the best thing I can say about them is I set 90% of my sturgeon while the rod is still in the holder (if i’m not holding the rod).

I saw a few bumps, went to reel down, nothing there, so I took a quick glance to the front and when I looked back at the rod it was doubling over in the holder. Which means the first reel down set the hook into the fish and he started swimming towards me. From there on it was GAME ON – I picked up the pole and he shot straight up for a full jump out of the water – then back down to the bottom. 15 mins later, sturgeonsarusrex makes his way into the boat.

A moment I will not soon forget!

Wow, Congratulations Jacob. That had to be 15 minutes of rod bending fun.
