Last night was such a nice night thought we would try for flatheads. Caught this 11lb 7oz channel on cut bait. Had live bait out but no takers. Flathead fishing has been very slow for me lately.
Took photo of pole in the moonlight and American Queen excursion boat as they went by us.
With water temp of still 60 deg we should still be able to catch a flathead for a while.

We’ve been having better luck on a wad of crawlers Mr. Ho.

    …if the sheepies stay away.

Nice looking channel and isn’t the AQ awesome!?

Wow…fishing on a Tuesday night….I’m jealous Dave. Can’t wait til I retire, I’ll be out there on Monday night…and Tuesday night and Wednesday and Thursday and Friday…maybe not the rest of the weekend though…too many kooks around on the weekends, besides I need to catch up on sleep sometime.

That’s a nice channel cat there. Did he hammer your bait?

Nice channel cat Dave. Keep trying you’ll start catching them sooner or later.

I was trying for flathead last night too. Caught a 10lb channel on a live bluegill. Big bluegill too, not really sure how the channel managed to fit it in his mouth. Had another gill that looked like a smaller fish was trying its hardest to fit it in its mouth.

I’ve been having trouble finding the flatheads. 2 weeks ago it was catch 2 or 3 before 9 and head home by 10. Now it’s sit out until midnight and have a couple of runs that are most likely gar and no flatheads.

    How about this?

    Tried for flathead
    Caught a channel cat
    It caught a flathead!

No live fish are safe in flathead waters

Its amazing what will fit in their mouth when they are hungry.

Robbie, around here that spot is normally reserved for walleyes.

Years ago my lake had stocked walleye. They didn’t do well so Ohio began stocking saugeye.

I took several older gentlemen fishing with me in the Fall.
We were catching flathead and among them was a fish with a tail of another fish hanging out it’s mouth. They asked what kind of fish it was and I replied I didn’t know.

They played around with the 39 pound flathead until they retrieved the large (17 inch) saugeye from the flathead.
I am sure if walleye had flourished they would also be on the flathead’s menu
