Was in tha Bayport area this morning and picked up 8 sturgeon. All were less than 45″ and 4 were over 40″. All fish and bites came on fatheads. Since the start of the season, all my fish have come on crawlers. I think we’re seeing a change for the better. Look for the action to start heating up. I think that you’ll start seeing the majority of your fish coming on fatheads, cut sucker and shad from here on out. Water temp was near 67.

lastnite got out from 6-11. fished a few different spots, caught fish in all spots but the last spot did best, maybe cz we spent more time there lol.

no pigs, biggest was 47, mostly high 30’s, had a few dbls and a near triple, boated 28 total

however, had 6 fish double the rod over. thought they were cats from the hit n fight. they seem to be more aggressive.

Fished 4 hours last night and 4 new spots. I think it’s time for a break. We put 15 sturg in the boat and I was able to throw another monster in the boat last night.

    55×22 Sturg and also a bonus 42×26 32lb flat.

Some nights Most of my friends aren’t allowed to fish every night like myself.

The FW believes if I am out fishing and she is sleeping – she could care less Heck – it’s better than sitting at the bar!

Realtor Ron (RIP) like using shrimp with a drop of anise oil, then left in the sun for a day.

I tried it for a couple years for sturgeon. All I ever caught was big channels. Day old shrimp left in the sun makes stink bait smell like a bouquet of flowers.

I dont believe this was legal but we ran out of cut one night up in central WI fishing channels. So I clicked on the head lamp and picked a few crawdads. Popped the tails off and instead of channels we caught 3 sturgeon in about an hour and took off. The next day I read up on the regs and it was not legal bait from what I seen and neither was catching them sturgeon if we were to keep after it. It was intresting though! My inlaws run into a sturgeon here and there while sucker and channel fishing but we have never seen 3 in one night. Let alone within and hour on crayfish tails

Michelle feels the same way…until I come home and inevitably wake her up.

Its because I was on the water yesterday and got my scent in the river.

I’ve noticed that everyone fishes Sturgeon at night. Is it not worth the effort to fish Sturgeon during the daytime?

Couple reasons most fish at night.

    1. The wind generally lays down at dusk.

    2. The cruisers (and the monster wakes) have gone to bed.

    2.5 Work during the day.

    3. It’s more fun!

First time I went out Sturgeon fishing it was in the middle of the day. 2.5 hours later we had 31 fish boated.

Took the FW out the next day and we sat in the cold and wind for 4 hours with nary a bite.

My best luck over the years has unanimously been during the day. Many 20+ fish days. Including last Sunday.

Would you say that the cruiser traffic dies down some this time of year or no?

That’s because you were fishing in a NO WAKE ZONE!
