This has nothing to do with fishing, but since most of my buds are Catter’s i figured i’d post it here

last wk while in portland, i had the honor to meet n share a drink/cigs with Ed W. Eaton. Probably the most decorated US Army Sniper ever.

kinda funny, but i knew he looked familiar, but didnt quite put 2 n 2 together. then we started chatting about how we ended up at an airport bar. he was traveling tru to Fort Stewart, to promote Burris Optics and speak to the troops and my company does alot of wrk with the military as my co-workers n i were on our way bak from Ft. Lewis and ill be heading to Ft. Benning come Wednesday.

    so here hows our convo went;

Ed: so your company wrks alot wit the military?

me: yes we do and ive been to ft. stewart as well, just got bak from ft. lewis and will head to ft. benning next wk

Ed: Benning you say. thats my old stompin grounds and where the US ARMY sniper school is at. i go there about a dozen times a yr.

me: oh cool, im guessin you’re EX-military as well

Ed; yep, Ex Army sniper, i served in Vietnam

me; thank you and thats cool im from Laos

Ed; i know Laos very well… have u ever watched history channel

me: yeah all the time, on of my favorites

Ed; u ever watch a show on Sniper deadliest mission?

    “then it hits me”

    me: you’re , you’re , you’re ED,,, Sgt. Ed Eaton!!!

i was kinda star struck really lol

Ed; yep thats me, im guessin you’ve seen the show

me; not only seen the show, but ive read about in countless shootin magz. you’re only one of the best shots in the world

then we chatted more and shared a few drinks.

it was an honor and he’s a stand up guy. very modest n dwn to earth, doesnt think of himself as a hero at all.
his site will explain the rest of that night that the show left off.

ive chatted with him since and he comes up to Ripley every now and then. showed him our fishing pix and he plans to do a lil fishing next time he’s up here. told him he’s always got a spot in my boat

One of the coolest things about my service as a USAR Drill Sergeant was traveling the country for missions. After work we would hit the NCO clubs. I worked with quite a few combat vets and whenever we would go to the club the old soldiers would come in and after a few cocktails the stories would start to fly. I’ve been to Knox, Brag, Bening, Leonard Wood, Hood, and a few others. I miss those days.
