Straight outta the 4 year old’s mouth – “Dad, can we go catch a channelhead catfish?”

Let me preface this by saying we recently had a conversation of freshwater fishes, followed shortly thereafter by a conversation regarding freshwater fishes we could go out and try to catch. Muskies? Too many casts. Flatheads? Too big, past their bedtime. Sturgeon? Wayyy too big.

Channelheads we could do. Seemingly like weeds they tend to foul cranks on the river at record pace, but it’s been a few years since I’ve targeted them. In the forty-five minutes they gave me to produce, all we could find was sheepies. Then their interest waned, and we went to find a playground.

Which was fine. It was an odd request to begin with.

Sounds like you were using worms. Ditch the worms and throw out some stink bait. Sonny’s blood has always been the best for me. If there is a catfish in the area he will hit it within 2 minutes.

I was afraid that’s what I was going to have to do. Anyone care to fill me in on the best hook/holder/bait combination? Leader length matter?

    Thanks,

    Joel

BK didn’T you post on Facehead that this was the sterile hybrid offspring of a channel cat and a flathead?

The out’s and in’s of stink.

Just a note Sudden Impact fiber bait has been kicking cats for me the last two weeks.
