What a day! Took the FW out for a could hours this morning and average 8 pound fish. It was easy to figure this because ever fish was 8.x pounds!

It was one of those days when Sudden Impact using just a treble hook work best. In fact that’s what all the fish came in on.

Everyone is reporting great cat success from the head of the lake to the dam area. Yes Rapalas are kicking butt too! LOL!

I have a feeling there’s going to be more reports coming in from tonight.

Nice fish, BK. Do you guys get a frog bite down that way in August? I’ve noticed that in Manitoba that’s all they’ll bite on in mid to late August, and here it seems like they have picked up a bit on frogs too. Obviously if you’re getting doubles on stinkbait and cut suckers there’s no incentive to switch now, but later in August and into September do you see them change preferences?

I’ve never had easy access to frogs (that doesn’t mean there isn’t any), so I haven’t used them and haven’t found the need at this point anyway.

Have you heard of anyone using frogs regularly other then the Red?

Midnight snack. Sturdiwheat’s Lemon Fish Coating. Perfect for just before bed time!

Nice fish Brian. You’re making me hungry now, oh wait a minute I’m always hungry. Thanks for the report.

    Those look good for anytime!

What oil do you fry them in?

I’ve finally decided that shortening is my fav. Gives it a much better flavor.

Walmart brand Extra Virgin Olive Oil.

It makes me think I’m eating healthy.

A guy I know is catching them left and right on the MN river between here and Kato in various spots on frogs. One report was that in one evening he got 15+ of them on frogs and 0 on cutbait (and AFAIK, they had rods out with both all night). We were out all night last night from 7 pm to 2 am and had cutbait out on a least one of our rods the whole time, with just a single channel cat to show for it. I know there are fish in the parts of the river we were fishing, so I’m thinking maybe frogs would have been the ticket. Unfortunately as you said, they’re harder to get access to.

It’s nice when they’re biting on cheap and easily available bait like they are in your neck of the woods.

    25 oz of Olive Oil @ $5.58<<

Keep in mind the only time a person needs the higher price Olive Oil is if they are using it to dip breads in and the like.

What kind of areas. Tough question.

Where we had the double that should have been a triple was in the main channel just up stream of underwater wood. I would go as far as calling it a snag. This is the only place we fished yesterday.

Another area that worked out well was on the inside bend of the main channel. Zero structure, just fish. A tourny winning channel was caught here a few weeks ago.

I haven’t been up to the dam since last weekend but I know they’re catching them up there to from good reports.

Just using Secret 7 and Sudden Impact it really won’t take long to dial them in. If you don’t have a bite in 10-15 minutes move on. Don’t be afraid to fish deep and don’t be afraid to fish very shallow next to shore.

    Good Luck!

Well Steve Hix is looking for a new guide. The one he used on Saturday would only let him and his wife keep 12.

Fingers crossed that this bite holds on for while… I could do 8lb average all day! For 3 days!

Man, sounds like you’ve got the exact depth dialed right in.

    You betcha!

The FW was catching her 8 pounders in 3 to 4 feet of water and Pete’s 16 pounder (and dinner for a week) came from 18 to 20 feet of water.

    Best I can do.

That is right Brian, I am looking for a new guide. Too many rules in the boat I was in.

Can’t keep over your limit of walleyes!

Can’t keep over 20 something inch walleyes!

Must slow down in the no wake zones!

    No mooning other boats!

    No playing with the bait!

No this, No that, No No No!!!!!!!

Can someone recommend a guide with no morals and a blatant disregard for the law??

Off-topic, but EVOO has a pretty low smoke point. You’d be better off using regular olive oil as opposed to extra virgin because the smoke point is higher.
